National Emergency Management Agencies

Features:
- One of the features of FEMA's site is a map
library, containing: GIS mapping products and data for the latest disasters, along with current and
prior year disasters and custom hazard maps that can be created by entering a zip code and
selecting from a variety of hazard types to help determine disaster risks in any community. In
addition, the Mitigation Directorate's Flood Hazard Mapping Technical Services Division
maintains and updates the National Flood Insurance Program maps.
- National Floodplain Management
Association
The association is interested in reducing flood losses and maintaining the natural values of
floodplains. The key activity of the organization is improving and extending the members'
knowledge and understanding of the need for and techniques of floodplain management.
Membership provides a means of continuing education as well as an opportunity to contribute to
our Nation's well being.

Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center
The Natural Hazards Center, located at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, USA, is a
national and international clearinghouse for information on natural hazards and human
adjustments to hazards and disasters. The Natural Hazards Center carries out its mission in four
principal areas: information dissemination, an annual workshop, research, and library services.
The center's prime goal is to increase communication among hazard/disaster researchers and those
individuals, agencies, and organizations that are actively working to reduce disaster damage and
suffering

The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is an initiative of the insurance industry to
reduce deaths, injuries, property damage, economic losses and human suffering caused by natural

business and community leaders so that we all make disaster resistance an important consideration

The University of Wisconsin Disaster Management Center (UW DMC) has worked closely with
experts recognized for their field experience to develop disaster management training activities

Management and Humanitarian Assistance
The Center's mission is to support the prevention and mitigation of humanitarian emergencies
through collaboration and civil-military cooperation. It accomplishes this through operational
research, education, training, information management and operational readiness. It functions as a
resource for information, facilitation, consultation, and research in areas related to humanitarian
assistance, disaster relief and peace operations, specifically as they involve civil-military
cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
